Here at dear ole Zachary High, we have definitely gained plenty of new students! With over 1400 students just this year, it is a surprise we even have enough desks! A majority of these new faces are freshman. What can we expect in the future if our population keeps increasing? A few new places, as well.
As you can see, in the back when you walk through the commons area doors, there these massive metal poles are being weldedtogether. This will soon be our brand new auditorium. It will include the drama, art, band, and choir classes. This means new rooms for floating teachers, teachers in t-buildings, and a lot more space for students. If you have taken a visit to the old auditorium, it was in much need of a repair!
We are thankful for the new building, and our teachers are excited to see the new auditorium get under way.
Basketball seems to be a much loved sport here at Zachary. They don’t, however, really enjoy practicing in the hot, humid gym all the time. If you look over by the athletic center, there is a huge new gym being finished. It will give us new locker rooms, new places for the girls to work out and practice, and much needed air conditioning! Not only is the basketball team being benefited, but other sports as well including volleyball, soccer, cross country, and others will take advantage of the facilities. This facility is scheduled for opening in mid-October.
One other building is on thelist to break ground soon. Sorry freshmen, but you guys won’t even be in the main school anymore. That’s right, Freshmen Academy! This new building will hold all freshmen classes, honors or not, and the IBCA rooms. Fortunately, for the class of 2014, you will not have to move to it. But our future freshmen will have their own building in the upcoming years.
Be looking out for these buildings to come up, because I know our faculty feels like they have been waiting forever. Principal Watts has been expecting the new gym since July. So it is way overdue! I know everyone is just as excited as he is to see our high school expanding.
