Is what you are paying for worth it?

Twilight the movie – based on the novel by the New York Time’s bestselling author Stephenie Meyer – hit the box office with a bang in 2008, grossing over $70 million in its weekend premiere. Twihard fans have counted the days, hours and even seconds until the arrival of the sequel, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and on November 19, the wait was over. It has set a new record for earnings for a midnight opening, and has more doubled the earnings of Twilight, raking in over $140 million in its first weekend.

New Moon continues the romance of Edward Cullen (the vampire) and Bella Swan (the human whose blood he thirsts for). However, very soon into the movie, Edward leaves Bella, telling her he doesn’t want her anymore. Bella falls into a deep depression. For months she is a “zombie,” going through the motions of life without actually living it. After months of misery, Bella begins to find solace in her newly-buff friend Jacob Black (the mortal turned werewolf). After many flamboyant werewolf chases and a run in with the Volturi, the closest thing vampires have to “ruling class,” the film comes to a climactic decision, the ultimate choice between the love of her life that left her empty and the boy who falls in love with her while trying to fix the hole inside of her.

Being a psycho fanpire, I looked forward to this movie for months. I stood in line for an hour with thousands of other super-fans. And I was not disappointed. As much as I loved the first installation of this saga, New Moon really blew me away. Although any fan of the novels would be more than impressed, many people who haven’t read the books left the theater satisfied. There is action and love, depression and abs to die for. The CGI (computer-generated imagery) makes the wolf pack really come to life. And did I mention the abs?

This movie is a perfect adaptation of what it is: a pop culture phenomenon. Teenage girls (and their mothers) swooned at the sight of both Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, and many people left the theater with a staggering decision to switch teams.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon satisfied its obsessive audience in a way only a movie with very attractive teenage and twenty-something guys can make girls gasp and scream in adoration. It was everything I had hoped, and it has left me begging for more.
